A Carib Territory located on Dominica’s northeast coast is home to about 3,000 descendants of the Carib Indians. After many battles with European colonizers, Caribs from many different islands retreated to Dominica, whose pristine rainforests, mountains and waterfalls earned it the nickname “The Nature Island.” Native crafts, like carving canoes from a single tree and making baskets from reeds, are still practiced.
